John and Susan Marry Each Other

I had the amazing privilege of meeting John and Susan from Virginia today. We talked yesterday for the first time, and after some challenging change of plans out of their control, they ended up in Boulder today and got married in Chautaqua Park at 1:30 pm. Hooray! It is such a blessing, an honor, a real treat, to photograph and witness these intimate moments in people's lives. Sometimes it's a stranger, sometimes it's your relatives, and sometimes it's all in between. All in all, I feel as if I have one of the best jobs in the world and I give thanks I share in these moments in people's lives and they trust me to do so. I know I am doing what I am meant to do. Thank you John and Susan for allowing me to bear witness and photograph you today! Congratulations to you on your wedding day!

Nederland Night

Nothing like a meal at Kathmandu Restaurant in Nederland, and we got to celebrate Meghan's Birthday. She is the awesome owner of Working Hands, providing amazing handy woman services. And we visited the Nederland Community Center Art Show where I have a botanical canvas hanging. Thanks to Teresa of Off Her Rocker Antiques, http://local.botw.org/Colorado/Nederland/Off_Her_Rocker_Antiques/687708251.html.
She is now carrying some of my canvas wrapped botanical prints and notecards at the store on First Street in Nederland. If you're in the area, take a look! Off Her Rocker Antiques 303-258-7976.

A Great Nilda Story

When my grandmother died, we all gathered for a real celebration of her life. One good thing about wakes and funerals is that we often get to hear stories about the person who has passed that we did not know before. At Nilda's wake, her long time employee, (around 40 years) Joey Moreschi, came to the wake with his wife with a handful of flowers wrapped in tin foil. I said, "Joey, what are those flowers? Let me get you a vase." And he told me this: Many years ago, in the early years of Edenwald Contracting, the construction company my grandparents started in the 1940's in New York City, Joey went to a garden center with my grandmother to help her pick out plants and flowers for her home in Scarsdale, NY. He always did the plantings at her home each Spring and pretty much helped her do just about anything that needed doing at her home with George Follini, my grandfather. They walked around the garden center and picked out her favorite things and she asked him, just for fun, if there was anything here you would like, what would it be? He said, that magnolia, which was a rare and very expensive tree back in those days. The next day it was delivered to his house as a gift from her. This was the kind of thing Nilda did all the time. So 40 years later, Joey shows up at her funeral with the blossoms from that now mature tree, which happened to be blooming at the time of her death. PERFECT!

Happy Birthday Nilda Follini

Today is my grandmother's birthday. She would have been 98 years old. She died 3 years ago and had a most amazing 95 years on the earth. She loved her family with such abundance and our lives were so incredibly blessed by her presence and her love and her unending generosity.
She was one of the most significant people in my life and she stood with me as witness at my wedding as my matron of honor at 89 years old. Lucky me to have had the love of this sweet soul for 40 years of my life. God Bless Nilda Follini, you are sorely missed.

Full Moon - Boulder, Colorado

How about that amazing full moon this weekend. The Moon was so bright because it was at perigee, the part of the Moon's orbit closest to Earth. This favorable geometry made the Moon appear 14% wider and 30% brighter than lesser moons of 2010. It was quite a perigee Moon. The lightest image here is the morning sun in fog. Kate at the sweetbird.blogspot.com called to tell me to check it out as the sun looked like the moon that morning, the same day as this awesome full moon.
